ORIGIN

Lazarus Santana was born the son of one of the most powerful mob bosses in his home city and a common street prostitute. Constantly on the run from the police, Lazarus was barely able to see his father once a year, and rarely received any love or attention from his mother. In an ironic twist, however, Santana grew to resent his father and his legacy, and wanted nothing to do with him. Instead, Lazarus went against his father's wishes to become the next head of his gang, and instead pursued an education to become a doctor, someone who could help people instead of hurting them like his father did. While a great many people were cautious about letting Santana anywhere near them, due to his father's name and reputation, the young man soon found a friend in Ricardo Sanchez.

On the night of the Science Fair, after helping Sanchez set up his display on a table, Lazarus decided to stroll around the gymnasium and check out his buddy's competition. While walking around, getting looks from certain people, out of the corner of his eye, he spotted a suspicious-looking person head towards the fire alarm. Lazarus knew a delinquent when he saw one, having spent most of his life around shady people, and didn't hesitate to jump into action.

A fight broke out between Lazarus and the other person, with Santana managing to overpower the other person for most of the fight. However, the ginger he was fighting managed to slip out of Santana's grip, and made a run for the fire alarm. Not knowing what else to do, Lazarus resorted to using the same shameful tactics his father had taught him, and threw a molotov cocktail at the person.

*BWSHT*

The cocktail instantly engulfed the other person in flames. It also caused a small explosion, sending him flying back onto an electric generator.

*BZZZT*

*BOOM*

The generator short-circuited, and a giant explosion nearly destroyed the gymnasium and almost killed everyone inside.

Though mostly everyone managed to get out, except a few, Santana was upset with himself. He had just done what his father would have wanted him to do: he took a life. Quick to flee the scene, Lazarus went into hiding, forever blaming himself for the fire that he believed had killed his friend Ricardo and the person who had tried setting of the fire alarm.

While hiding, Lazarus came to shocking discovery. While in a convenience store one day, an armed man burst through the doors and demanded that the woman behind the cash register hand over all the money. Seeing the crime in progress, and his blood boiling, Santana barely managed to snap back to reality to see a column of fire bursting from his hand! When the authorities showed up, all witness reports say that they had seen the armed criminal suddenly burst into flames!

Back in his secret hideout, Lazarus stared wide-eyed at his flaming hand, not a hint of burning or scorch marks on it, even as a small flame dance around between his fingers. Whatever had happened at the Science Fair had given Santana fire powers! And this time, he was going to use them for good.

~~

*FWOOSH*

A small flame flickered on Santana's thumb, not causing him any pain or discomfort in the slightest.

"....... I know what must be done......" Lazarus said with a stern face as he looked down at his scorching thumb.

"Lazarus Santana, I take it?" a man's voice asked.

"!!!"

Across the room, a shadowy, mysterious man stood covered in black bandages. The Void.

"Wh... Who are you?!" Santana asked nervously as he quickly got ready for a fight, both of his fists engulfed in flames. "How did you find me!?"

"Wasn't very hard." Void replied. "Calm down, I'm not here to hurt you." he said, noting Santana's burning fists. "I just want to talk."

"...... Fine." Lazarus reluctantly replied, extinguishing the fire around his hands.

"Thank you." Void said, then went on. "Listen, Lazarus, I know you didn't mean to start that fire at the gymnasium that night. It wasn't your fault."

"Psht. Flattery isn't going to get you very far, Old Man." Lazarus remarked.

"I believe that there's still good in you, Lazarus." Void continued. "Which is why I came here to give you this."

*THUD*

Void reached behind his back and threw something that landed in front of Santana. A small light brown portfolio folder with a title reading:

"Project: Kamikaze."

"Huh? What's this thing, Old Man?" Lazarus looked up, but Void was long gone. "Hey, where'd you go?" he looked around, but Void was nowhere to be seen. He then looked down at the portfolio, pondered in his mind, then picked it up and began reading it.

"Project Kamikaze, huh?" Lazarus smirked. "Very well, Old Man, you've got my attention."

APPEARANCE AND PERSONALITY

Despite his Hispanic last name, Lazarus Santana is a bald, dark skinned African with dark brown eyes, a fairly muscular build, and scratches all over his body. After the accident, his skin turned ash-grey, and black markings resembling tattoos appeared all over his body, giving him a skull design on his face. Usually shirtless most of the time, Lazarus wears only baggy orange pants that are highly resistant to fire, and black shoes. Despite being from a family of thugs and gangsters, Lazarus is seen as the black sheep of the family, as he sees committing crimes for personal gain a terrible thing. He also doesn't hold grudges, despite receiving prejudice from his fellow school mates, and some teachers, during his time at school.
